PROVIDENCE — A Rhode Island judge on Tuesday slammed the Department of Justice for what she called “misrepresentations” that led a Texas judge to order Rhode Island Hospital to turn over medical records of transgender youth to the Trump administration. The DOJ is seeking expansive records of children and teens who were given gender-affirming care such as puberty blockers to treat gender dysphoria. They are not only seeking records of the care provided, but also the names, parents’ names, home addresses, Social Security numbers and other information, prompting alarm from LGBTQ+ and child welfare advocates. Seven other attempts by the DOJ to subpoena such records, including at Boston Children’s Hospital, have been blocked by federal judges.
