About the case
The 2017 Equifax breach exposed Social Security numbers, birth dates, and other sensitive data for ~147 million people. The settlement created a fund of up to $425 million for affected consumers, with additional civil penalties bringing the total to $700+ million. Claim deadlines have closed but credit-monitoring services remain accessible to enrolled members. This is one of the largest data-breach settlements in U.S. history and is often used as a benchmark in negotiations of subsequent breach class actions.
