About the case
Apple agreed to a $310 million to $500 million settlement after iOS power-management updates reduced performance on certain iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, and SE devices. Plaintiffs alleged that Apple did not adequately disclose the throttling behavior before users replaced batteries or devices. The case became known as Batterygate and remains a useful consumer-technology reference point because it sits at the intersection of software updates, device performance, disclosure, and repair economics. Eligible owners were expected to receive roughly $25 per approved device, subject to the final number of valid claims and settlement administration costs.
